BIG HIT Reports

DELIVERABLE 5.1 Business Model and Replication Study of BIG HIT

This report provides a calculation tool for decision-makers regarding cost impacts for replicating the BIG HIT project to other EU isolated/remote regions in the future. It explores how large amounts of electrolytic hydrogen can create a new energy paradigm where ‘green hydrogen’ is integrated as an energy vector in a sustainable integrated energy system, to supply not only local transport fuel but also heat and power requirements.

DELIVERABLE 5.3 Environmental Impact Study of BIG HIT

This report assess the potential environmental impact of hydrogen production, distribution and energy application in the Orkney Islands. A life cycle assessment (LCA) analysis is conducted on the hydrogen system concept of the BIG HIT project, according to ISO 14040 and ISO 14044. The life cycle stage of the BIG HIT project includes hydrogen production, hydrogen distribution, hydrogen application, and the replaced energy. The system boundary is built based on BIG HIT mass flow, considering the system expansion with ‘no BIG HIT’ as the substituted energy supply in the analysis. Fourteen impact categories are assessed including climate change.

DELIVERABLE 5.5 Social Impact Assessment of BIG HIT

This report presents an estimate of the potential social impacts of solutions implemented by the BIG HIT project. The social life cycle assessment methodology is used to analyse the potential social impact. There are five main stakeholder categories included: workers, local community, society (national and global), consumers, and value chain actors. Under each stakeholder, subcategories are addressed and analysed.

The objective of this report is to explore whether there are significant social impacts one should be aware of in the project. The input data used for the impact analysis is from surveys, interviews, and national statistical data.

DELIVERABLE 6.1 Dissemination and Exploitation Plan for BIG HIT

The Dissemination and Exploitation Plan maximises the impact of the BIG HIT project through dissemination to follower territories, stakeholders and the wider public. This plan uses the resources and support from all BIG HIT partners to increase the impact and value for BIG HIT dissemination and exploitation. The dissemination and exploitation activities reinforce the benefits from wider replication and further deployments of renewable energy with fuel cell & hydrogen technologies in isolated or constrained territories.

DELIVERABLE 6.2 Dissemination and Exploitation Plan for BIG HIT

The second version of the Dissemination and Exploitation Plan sets out activities to maximise the impact of the BIG HIT project through dissemination to follower territories, stakeholders and the wider public.

DELIVERABLE 6.5 Hold public awareness meetings in Kirkwall, Eday and Shapinsay to inform the public of BIG HIT plans

This report provides an update on Deliverable 6.5, the first Deliverable from WP6 which is to hold public awareness meetings in Kirkwall, Eday and Shapinsay to inform the public of BIG HIT plans. This report also summarises the materials used during the public launch of BIG HIT on 11 May 2016, as these communications formed the basis for early engagement with the wider public stakeholders on Orkney, and other dissemination activities carried out in the first few months of BIG HIT.

DELIVERABLE 6.6 Press Day 2 & 3 May 2018 at All Energy, Glasgow

The BIG HIT press day at the All-Energy exhibition and conference in Glasgow on 2 and 3 May 2018 facilitated dissemination activities to engage with the local population and stakeholders. This event raised awareness of fuel cell and hydrogen technologies and included participation from the First Minister of Scotland. Activities took place both at the press day and also in parallel conference and information sessions, allowing experts from the project partners to present BIG HIT and answer questions in open session.

DELIVERABLE 6.7 First Workshop Event in Kirkwall, Scotland, on 15 May 2018

The formal opening of the BIG HIT project facilities in the Orkney Islands was successfully carried out on 15 May 2018, at a whole day event attended by 98 delegates, including industry and local stakeholders Senior representatives from the Scottish Government and the Government of Aragon were present. Activities included keynote speeches by the Fuel Cell and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking and project partners, and visits to see the BIG HIT facilities in Kirkwall.
