Hydrogen Tube Trailers
Tube trailers have been used extensively for moving high pressure hydrogen, but the sxisting designs of industrial hydrogen trailers were too large and too heavy to use on narrow rural roads such as Orkney's more remote islands.
Calvera have designed and produced a new tube trailer that is light enough to comply with a 25 tonne weight limit of many Orkney roads, while still meeting all of the safety requirements of transporting hydrogen by sea.
The BIG HIT project will see the deployment of five Calvera tube trailers in the Orkney Islands to store and transport the hydrogen between the renewable production sites and the end user locations.
Because the tube trailers will be transported by ferry the new Calvera design has been put through a series of rigorous safety tests to prove its suitability for marine transportation.
